COOKEVILLE, Tenn. – When Tennessee Tech Softball welcomes UT Martin on April 13-14, it will be a cause of celebration as the Golden Eagle Softball team will recognize the 30th anniversary of the 1994 Ohio Valley Conference championship team between games as part of the Wings Up Weekend festivities on Saturday, April 13.
The 1994 Golden Eagle squad earned the inaugural OVC championship, going an unblemished 17-0 in the conference – a feat that has only been matched by the 2016 Jacksonville State team.
The performance earned Coach of the Year honors for Bobby Holloway, as well as both Player and Pitcher of the Year honors for Beth Keylon – the only student-athlete to win both honors the same season.
The championship was the first of five regular-season titles out of 12 total championships in program history.
The team collected All-OVC selections for Keylon and Stacy Hughes on the first-team, Candice Clark and Mary Beth Coombs on the second-team, and an honorable mention pick for Tammy Lambert. Hughes led the team with a .376 average with 62 hits, 31 runs scored and 21 stolen bases. Kathy Hammill paced the team with 28 RBI, while Coombs and Keylon both had three home runs and Clark had 13 doubles.
In the circle, Keylon led the team with a 1.09 ERA and 17 victories, striking out 249 batters and throwing six shutouts.
Keylon was inducted into the TTU Sports Hall of Fame in 2004, while Hughes joined the ranks in 2007.
Tech Softball alumni will also want to save the date for two upcoming events as the team will host its Alumni Game and Celebration Weekend on Sept. 6-7 with the game on Saturday, Sept. 7. The softball program will also host its annual Hit-a-Thon event on Sept. 21.
Admission to all games at Tech Softball Field is free to the public.
