Tech softball adds midweek game against Samford

COOKEVILLE, Tenn. – The Tennessee Tech softball team will get a pair of mid-week contests in against Samford on Wednesday afternoon as the Golden Eagles will host the Bulldogs in a doubleheader, starting at 4 p.m.
 
Tech (13-22) is coming off of a 3-1 weekend after sweeping Tennessee State on Saturday and splitting with Belmont on Sunday.
 
Samford is no stranger to the Golden Eagles, previously facing them as a member of the Ohio Valley Conference before leaving to join the Southern Conference.
 
The Bulldogs (16-25, 6-3 SoCon) took two out of three games against East Tennessee State this past weekend and was scheduled to face Lipscomb tonight in Nashville before weather forced a postponement.
 
As a team, Samford is hitting .266 with 21 home runs and has been outscored 210-158. Shelby Maze leads the Bulldogs with a .432 average with 64 hits and a team-high 33 runs scored. Abby Sweeney (30 RBI), Hannah Trombley (28 RBI) and Abbie Miranda (26 RBI) leads Samford's run production.
 
In the circle, Grey Adams has led the Bulldogs in appearances with a 7-10 record in 19 starts and a 3.06 ERA. She has walked 68 and struck out 86 with opposing batters hitting .218. Jessica Stone (7-4, 3.14 ERA) and Taylor DeCelles (2-7, 5.17 ERA) are also possible starters for Samford.
 
Against the OVC this season, Samford went 0-2 against Murray State, 0-1 against Jacksonville State, 1-0 against Eastern Illinois, 0-1 against Tennessee State, 1-1 against UT Martin and 0-2 against Austin Peay.
 
Tech, as a team, is batting .231 with 38 home runs, and has been outscored 170-124. Aalia Bivens leads the Golden Eagles with a .333 batting average and seven home runs, while Alyssa Richards leads Tech with 18 RBI.
 
In the circle, Danielle Liberatore leads the team with a 5-8 record and a 3.50 ERA, walking 51 and striking out 126 in 96 innings of work. Leigh Ellen Thomas (6-10, 4.28 ERA), Kayla Hughes (1-2, 3.06 ERA) and Taylor Waldrop (1-2, 5.25 ERA) are also options for Tech.
