ATHENS, Ga. – Eduardo Mena's captivating spring came to a close Thursday afternoon, falling to Stanford's Tom Fawcett in the second round of the 2017 NCAA DI singles championships from the Dan Magill Tennis Complex.

Having already made history in becoming the first Golden Eagle to ever win a match in the championships with a 6-4, 7-6 (6) over Baylor's Maxime Tchoutakian in Wednesday's first round, Mena was downed, 6-0, 6-1, to the nation's 11th ranked player. Fawcett will now move into Friday's Round of 16, where he will square off with Cal's Florian Lakat, who knocked off Texas A&M's Jodi Arconada, 6-4, 6-3.

Mena became the second Tennessee Tech tennis player to ever participate in the tournament, joining Borja Zarco's 2008 appearance.

Mena wraps up a spring season to remember with his second-straight OVC Player of the Year honor after posting an eye-popping 17-2 spring singles record, ending Tech's team campaign on a 13-match win streak. In TTU's NCAA Tournament bout at No. 10 Cal on May 12, Mena was right in the thick of things with No. 12 Florian Lakat. The OVC Player of the Year fell 6-3 in the first set, but held a 4-3 edge in the second at the clash was called.

Mena helped pace Tech to an OVC regular season and tournament championship, the fifth regular season title in the last six years and the second consecutive tourney crown.
