Golden Eagles shutout Florida Gulf Coast 4-0 on Saturday

FORT MYERS, Fla.—The Tennessee Tech men's tennis team claimed a 4-0 victory over Florida Gulf Coast on Saturday evening.

A match strewn with weather delays, the Golden Eagles held tough to claim the doubles point with the No.1 doubles duo of Eduardo Mena and Alberto Esteban defeating the Eagle's Cerrini and Alfonzo, 6-4. From there, the three doubles tandem of Marc Mila and Jorge Alfonzo were defeated in a nail-biter of a match by a 7-6. With the doubles point up for grabs, the pair of Guillermo Nicolas and Marcos Bernardes defeated the Eagles by a 6-4 margin.

With the doubles point secures for Tech, the players began singles play. Mena was the first to complete his match, defeating FGCU's Landert 6-0, 6-2. The Golden Eagle's Alfonzo then followed suit, downing his opponent 6-4, 6-3. Carlos Tajes then sealed the Tech shutout with a 1-6, 6-4, 6-1 victory over the Eagles' Ruiz.
