Golden Eagles eighth after first day of EKU Intercollegiate

RICHMOND, Ky. – The first two rounds of the 2019-20 campaign are officially in the books for the Tennessee Tech men's golf team. The Golden Eagles put forward rounds of 294 and 287 to conclude day one of the EKU Intercollegiate with a 581.

The team ranked eighth among the 12 teams in competition at the University Club at Arlington. At the top of the leaderboard, Northern Kentucky and UT Martin came to a tie through the first two rounds, both leading the field with scores of 561. Cleveland State's Zach Robbins paced the tournament field of 74 participants with a 4-under 136.

As for the Golden Eagles, it was Cookeville native Will Brooks leading the charge with rounds of 71 and 70. His two-round total of 141 ranked him in a tie for 11th overall and just 1-over for the tournament playing at a par of 70. The junior birdied three times in each round for a total of six heading into the final day.

Next among the Tech participants was sophomore Chance Taylor, who posted a 144 to tie for 26th overall. He turned in back-to-back 72s on the day while also birdieing five total holes. Senior Cameron Yeary ranked in a tie for 32nd overall after carding a 75-71=146. The wily veteran totaled four birdies on the first day.

Contributing to the cause with a 150 through two rounds was sophomore Bryce Beeler. He tied for 46th place with rounds of 76 and 74 while tallying four birdies. Making his collegiate debut, freshman Nick Sutton earned his first birdie for the Golden Eagles while shooting a 77 and an 80.

Rounds three of the tournament will kick off with an 8:00 a.m. CT shotgun start Sunday morning in Richmond, Ky.
