GOODYEAR, Ariz. - The Tennessee Tech men's golf team gathered key experience against Ohio Valley Conference opponents Tuesday, holding strong in its position in the Snowman Getaway to defeat both teams from the league.

The Golden Eagles, who jumped from 13th to 12th to wrap up the event in Goodyear, Ariz., finished two places above Murray State and five ahead of SIUE, finishing the 54-hole tournament with an 875.

Located at the Palm Valley Golf Club, a 7,015-yard, par-72 course, Tech used strong play from veteran Lee Whitehead to move up in the 17-team field. The junior carded a third-round 73 to finish tied for 12th in a field of 100 players with an overall score of 216.

Finishing second for the Tech squad in a tie for 31st overall was sophomore Adam Cunningham, who put together 67, tying his career-low. He carded a 216 for the tournament, finishing lower than all but one OVC opponent at the event.

Sophomore Mitch Thomas also tallied a 73 on Day Two, wrapping up play with a 224 overall score to finish in a tie for 65th. Mason Griffin wrapped up the scoring with a 77 in his last round of the event. His 227 tied him for 78th overall.

Sophomore Bryce Kendrick was forced to retire before Round Three began, making the Golden Eagles' move to 12th that much more impressive.

The Golden Eagles will get back to action on March 10 when it takes part in the Grover Page Classic hosted by in-state rival and OVC foe UT Martin.
