COOKEVILLE, Tenn. - Tennessee Tech golfer Mitch Thomas continues to prove himself as one of the best in the Ohio Valley Conference, as the sophomore garnered All-OVC honors for the first time of his career Friday night.

A native of Knoxville, Tenn., Thomas led the team and ranked fifth in the league in scoring average this season with a mark of 73.1. This season alone, the youngster earned adidas® OVC Male Golfer of the Week, two All-Tournament nods, and a total of two top five and four top 10 finishes.

Last season, Thomas claimed OVC All-Newcomer honors after finishing second on the Golden Eagles with a 75.76 scoring average and a top 10 finish.

The sophomore becomes the first Tech men's golfer to collect All-OVC recognition since 2008 when John Fox was named to the first team (no longer named, the league uses just one overall all-conference team) and Barrett Steakley was named to the second team.

UT Martin's Austin Swafford became the second-straight Skyhawk golfer to win the OVC Freshman of the Year award on Friday night at a banquet following the first day of play at the 2014 OVC Men's Golf Championship.

The OVC Player and Coach of the Year awards will be announced on Sunday afternoon following the final round of play at the Championship, which is being held at The Robert Trent Jones Golf Trail at The Shoals in Muscle Shoals, Ala.
