A local car dealer recently committed $50,000 towards the construction of Tennessee Tech University's rebuilt football stadium.
Geoff Root, general manager and managing partner at Ford Lincoln of Cookeville, says the company strongly believes in investing in the community's growth and development.
"Supporting the construction of the stadium and Tech's football program aligns with our commitment to create a sense of community and family, enhance the quality of life for Cookeville residents and foster a vibrant local economy," Root said. "Tech and its football program are crucial for the Upper Cumberland, because they serve as pillars of education, community engagement and regional identity. They attract students, faculty and visitors to the area, stimulating economic activity and promoting cultural exchange."
Tech previously announced plans to rebuild the west side of Tucker Stadium, which has been the home of Tech's Golden Eagle football team since 1966. The new stadium will offer additional amenities to enhance the gameday experience including upgraded seating and suites. Demolition of the stadium's west side is slated to begin this spring with construction on the new stadium to follow in the fall.
"We want Tech's football program to be filled with success, both on and off the field," Root said. "We envision the program becoming a source of pride for the university, the community and the Upper Cumberland. We're excited for a future where Tech's football team continues to excel athletically while also nurturing the personal and academic growth of student-athletes."
Tech Athletic Director Mark Wilson says Ford Lincoln of Cookeville's gift is an investment in student-athletes and the future of Tech's football program.
"A new stadium will benefit the university, the City of Cookeville and the entire Upper Cumberland community," Wilson said. "I am grateful to Ford Lincoln of Cookeville for their belief and confidence in our program. I share their vision and know that upgraded facilities and an elevated football program will be a source of pride for the region. We still have some fundraising to do to get across the goal line, and with support from alumni and local partners, we can get there."
Root says Ford Lincoln of Cookeville considers Tech to be a vital partner in their efforts to enrich the lives of Cookeville residents and contribute to the region's prosperity.
