COOKEVILLE, Tenn. – Another semester in the books translated into yet another highly successful showing in the classroom for Tennessee Tech student-athletes, as the 15 Golden Eagle programs combined to post their 29th straight semester with a GPA over 3.0.

During the Spring 2023 semester, Tech student-athletes came together to produce a mark of 3.292, the athletic department's eighth straight semester with a GPA of at least 3.20. The legacy of Tech's 29 consecutive semesters above a 3.0 began back with the spring semester of 2009.

"Tennessee Tech student-athletes are a constant source of motivation for myself and our entire staff," Tech Assistant Athletic Director for Academics and Student Welfare Dr. Leveda Birdwell expressed. "Their dedication to their course work both in and out of season, and the results they provide consistently; it is all truly remarkable what they accomplish day-in and day-out and inspires us to work just as hard. We are all very proud of what they have achieved and are excited to watch them continue to evolve and progress in the future."

A whopping 13 of Tech's 15 teams delivered GPA's above the 3.0 mark while seven saw improvement from their Fall 2022 grades.

"It fills me with great pride to be associated with our student-athletes, ones who truly understand the importance of making the classroom such a high priority," Tech Director of Athletics Mark Wilson said. "Our student-athletes continuously pour in tireless effort to take care of business both in their respective sport programs, but also in their school work, and these results show they continue to get that done at a high level. We continue to be extremely thankful and grateful to have Dr. Birdwell and her staff of Samantha Bates, Kara Phillips, and Virginia Lewis on campus to help our student-athletes achieve at their highest level. We continue to push every student-athlete to strive to graduate with a championship ring on one hand and diploma in the other."

The Golden Eagle women's golf team came out on top to lead all programs for the second straight spring semester, boasting their highest recorded GPA in program history of 3.690 (not including the spring 2020 campaign during COVID). It pushed out the team's streak of 20 consecutive semesters above a 3.0 GPA. Tennis finished right behind with a 3.641 while soccer team placed third with a mark of 3.628.

Volleyball continued its incredible streak of boasting a team GPA over 3.0, securing it's 46th consecutive semester above the mark with a 3.248. Also keeping impressive streaks alive were soccer (39 straight), softball (38 straight), and both indoor and outdoor track and field (38 straight).

The tennis team turned made it 30 consecutive semesters above 3.0 while the women's cross country team reached its 22nd straight semester with a mark of 3.446.
