McCoin selected Player of the Week by Tennessee Sportswriters Association

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Tennessee Tech wide receiver Brock McCoin was named Tuesday as the Offensive Players of the Week by the Tennessee Sportswriters Association (TSWA) for his efforts in the Golden Eagles season opener Saturday at the University of Houston.

Cumberland's Nathan Jernigan earned the Defensive Player of the Week award in the first of weekly awards for the 2015-16 academic year sponsored by the TSWA.

McCoin, who was also named the Ohio Valley Conference Offensive Player of the Week, posted the most prolific receiving game in the nation across any NCAA division on Saturday, collecting nine receptions for 264 yards and two touchdowns against Houston. The Livingston, Tenn., native caught scoring passes of 71 and 77 yards and also had 46 and 47-yard receptions during the contest.

McCoin’s performance set an OVC record for most receiving yards against an FBS opponent and was the second most in Tech school history in a single game. His four big plays either scored or set up all four Tech scores in the contest.

Jernigan posted 15 tackles with 1.5 sacks in CU’s 33-26 victory over 11th-ranked Georgetown College. The Eagleville, Tenn., native collected his seventh career double-figure tackle outing and sixth in the last 12 games overall. The redshirt junior also registered 15 stops last year versus the University of the Cumberlands and tallied a career-best 16 tackles in last season’s finale at Alderson Broaddus.

TSWA selects players of the week throughout the year, including football, soccer and volleyball during the fall.
