COOKEVILLE, Tenn. -- The Tennessee Tech football team wrapped up a week of practices with an easy walk-through Friday night on the grass practice field next to Eblen Center, and the Golden Eagles ready to rumble Saturday afternoon in Tucker Stadium with their final scrimmage of fall camp. It's part of a big day for the Gathering of Eagles, and it's all free for fans.

Veteran coach Watson Brown said the team will work through a 65-play session, beginning at 2 p.m. on Overall Field.

"It will be much shorter than last week and everybody will get it," Brown said. "I'm expecting a good, clean scrimmage. We have some positions still up for grabs, so we'll take a good look at those positions."

He said the team is ready for Saturday, its final full-scale scrimmage before the Sept. 5 season opener at Houston.

"We had a good week. We haven't had any bad injuries and it was a pretty physical week," he said.

After last week's session, Brown said he wanted better consistency from his team and was a little concerned about the team's conditioning. Those aren't conerns any longer, he said, except for the team's conditioning for hot weather.

"We're ready to play in the rain," he joked, after the team worked out nearly every session in rain, drizzle, downpours or mist. "Our conditioning is good. We made good strikes this week, and I feel good about our conditioning overall. I don't know about our conditioning for the weather, though."

The Gathering of Eagles begins at 10:30 a.m. with a Women's Football Clinic. It also includes a Kid's Zone, and a Kid's Clinic. A free picnic lunch begins at 12:30 p.m., and the scrimmage is at 2 p.m. The team will be available to sign autographs after the scrimmage. At 4 p.m., the volleyball team extends the day's activities with a Purple vs. Gold Scrimmage in Eblen Center, also free.
