COOKEVILLE, Tenn. -- Tennessee Tech quarterback Jared Davis has been chosen as the Ohio Valley Conference Offensive Player of the Week by website College Sports Madness. Eastern Illinois linebacker Seth McDonald is the organization's OVC Defensive Player of the Week.

Davis led the Golden Eagles to a 29-22 come-from-behind victory over Mercer Saturday night in Tucker Stadium, recording his second 300-yard passing game of the season. He was 18-for-26 for 301 yards, passing for two touchdowns and rushing for another. He found Krys Cates for a 74-yard TD strike on the second play of the game for a quick, 7-0 Tech lead.

Late in the game, after Mercer had taken a 22-21 lead, Davis engineered the game-winning drive to give the Golden Eagles (1-2) their first win of the year. He found freshman Austin Hicks for 16 yards, handed to Ladarius Vanlier for a seven-yard gain, and then rushed for 10. After another 13-yard completion to Hicks, Davis hit Jordan Smith on the sideline two plays later for a 16 yard pickup to the Mercer 20.

From the eight, Davis hit Cates on third down for the game-winning touchdown. After sustaining a five-yard penalty, Tech went for two from the eight and Davis hit Cates in the corner of the end zone for the more-comfortable seven-point lead.

Davis currently ranks second in the OVC in passing yards per game and total offense, and third in passing efficiency.

Tech plays Saturday at Murray State in the team's OVC opener.
