Biloxi High standout and scholar, Chandler Myers signs with Tech

COOKEVILLE, Tenn. -- Tennessee Tech’s 2016 football signing class has added another promising student-athlete, as coach Marcus Satterfield’s first group of recruits has grown to 23 top-notch signees.

Chandler Myers, a 6-foot-3, 230-pound defensive end/linebacker from Biloxi, Miss., will join the Golden Eagle roster and enroll in chemical engineering. He is the son of Jim and Brooke  Myers, and has been an award-winning student, earning the team’s Top Scholar Award the past two years while entrenching himself on the Honor Roll all four years of Biloxi High school career.

As a junior, Myers made a name for himself with a variety of honors after taking a leadership role for the Indian defense with 47 total tackles, four fumbles recovered and three fumbles caused. He suffered a shoulder injury that sidelined him for the entire senior season.

As a junior, he was named All-Region 4-6A at defensive end, and was the regional coach’s selection as Player of the Year. He was also an all-South Mississippi defensive end selection, and went into his senior year as a Sun-Herald preseason All-State pick at linebacker.

In addition to being a four-year football letterwinner, Myers also played on the BHS baseball team.

His academic honors have also been plentiful. In addition to the Top Scholar Award for football, he earned Gulf Coast Commerce Academic Recognition, Excellence in AP calculus, AP physics, AP U.S. History and the Chemistry Award for the top GPA in all classes. A member of the National Honor Society and Mu Alpha Theta, he won the Hugh O’Brien Leadership Award while achieving a 32 ACT score and a 4.3 GPA.
