RALEIGH, N.C. and GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Purity Sanga added another item to her sensational 2018-19 track and field season, crushing the Tennessee Tech outdoor 10,000-meter record by 12 seconds with a time of 34-minutes, 13.02-seconds at the N.C. State Raleigh Relays.

Sanga's time bested Micayla Rennick's previous Tech standard of 34:25.22 set at the 2018 Virginia Challenge. The sophomore from Kenya added further credence to her title as one of the best distance runners in the nation, as her mark is currently the ninth-fastest by a Division I athlete this season.

Coupled with her impressive effort in the indoor 3,000 at the Indiana Relays on Jan. 25, Sanga has now established two new program records in 2019.

This year's Ohio Valley Conference Athlete of the Year for both the cross country and indoor track seasons, Sanga cut nearly a whole minute off her previous best in the 10,000 meters (35:11.23), and holds the lead on the OVC Outdoor Performance List by nearly eight and a half minutes, barring the completion of this weekend's results.

Janet Kwambai was also in action at the Raleigh Relays, posting a time of 4:54.22 in her second career attempt in the 1,500 meters. The freshman already holds the No. 6 time in the league, a 4:46.44 from the Vanderbilt Black and Gold Invitational last weekend.

Khemani Roberts was the only athlete to compete for Tennessee Tech at the Pepsi Florida Relays on Friday evening.

Roberts, who won OVC Co-Field Athlete of the Week for her high jump performance at Vanderbilt, took part in the same event in Gainesville and posted the exact same mark, getting over the bar at 1.71 meters. The effort tied for the fourth-best of her career outdoors.

Sanga and Kwambai's outings conclude Tech's weekend agenda at the N.C. State Raleigh Relays. Several Golden Eagles will be in action tomorrow at the Pepsi Florida Relays, beginning with the 4x100-meter relay team 1:40 p.m. CT.
