BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – Sophomore Ashley Mayhew and freshman
Rebecca Forbes each established new career-best numbers in their
final tuneup before next week’s Ohio Valley Conference Track
& Field Championships.
Tennessee Tech coach Tony Cox took three student-athletes to the
Western Kentucky Invitational in Bowling Green, giving them one
final chance to prepare for the OVC meet which will take place
Friday and Saturday at Eastern Kentucky University.
Mayhew set a new career mark in the shot put, and also competed in
the discus. She scored a toss of 43 feet, 3.25 inches to beat her
old mark by one inch and finish sixth. Mayhew placed ninth in the
discus with a toss of 112 feet, 3 inches.
Forbes set a new career-best to finish 10th in the discus at 97
feet, 9 inches, beating her previous best by three inches. She also
placed fourth in the javelin with a throw of 82 feet, 8 inches.
Senior Ashley Evans was the third Golden Eagle to compete at WKU.
She placed sixth in the 3,000-meter steeplechase with a time of
13:21.94.
