COOKEVILLE, Tenn. -- The match will take place one day later than
originally scheduled due to weather concerns in the Peach State, as
Tennessee Tech visits Georgia State Sunday for a tennis match
beginning at 10 a.m. CT. The event will take place in the Peachtree
City Tennis Center in Peachtree City. Ga., a few miles southwest of
Atlanta.
The Golden Eagles (0-5) had to postpone the match from Saturday
with ice and snow stalling and slowing movement in Georgia. Tech
was also slated to face UNC Greensboro, but that match was
cancelled.
Georgia State (3-6) is coming off a 1-2 weekend against three Top
70 ranked opponents. The Panthers upset No. 67 East Tennessee, 4-3,
on Saturday. GSU lost 4-1 matches to No. 61 Wichita State and No.
29 Oklahoma State. Georgia State opened the year ranked No. 62, but
have dropped off the chart.
Tech and Georgia State have met 11 times on the courts, with the
Panthers owning an 8-3 advantage. The two teams have split the last
four matches, with Tech claiming victories in 2010 and 2011, and
the Panthers winning each of the last two years. In last year's
match, a 6-1 win for GSU, the Tech point came at No. 1 singles when
Syrym Abdukhalikov defeated No. 54 Victor Valente in straight sets,
6-2, 6-2.
Live stats will be available for
the match.
