UNC Asheville Bulldogs claim 6-1 win over Tennessee Tech

ASHEVILLE, N.C. -- UNC Asheville won a close doubles point with two tie-breaking wins then took five singles wins as the Bulldogs downed Tennessee Tech 6-1 in men's college tennis action Sunday afternoon at the Asheville Racquet Club Downtown.

Tech (0-5) didn't give up the doubles point without a valiant fight. Asheville (3-2) won all three matches in doubles but had to go to a tie-breaker to win the first and second flights. The number one flight team of Daniel Kripak and John Schubel outlasted the Golden Eagles duo of Artem Tarasov and Vasily Eremeev, 6-5 (7-5). Asheville's No. 2 doubles team of Will Goldberg and Alex Croker slipped past Gagan Jain and Alvaro Cintas, 6-5 (7-0).

The Bulldogs No. 3 doubles team Josh Swindler and Thomas Panoulas downed Oleksiy Arovin and Gonzalo Munoz, 6-2.

In singles action, Asheville won flights 2-5. The Golden Eagle points came at No. 4 singles where Cintas edged John Schubel in three sets, 6-2, 2-6, 6-5 (7-2).

The Golden Eagles face two matches Saturday in Atlanta. Tech meets UNC Greensboro at 1:30 p.m. on the Georgia State courts, then faces Georgia State at 6 p.m.
