Tech tennis team at USTA/ITA Regional Championships in Knoxville

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. - The Tennessee Tech tennis team is back in action Friday morning as the Golden Eagles head east for the USTA/ITA Regional Championships in Knoxville, Tenn. This marks the second time in three years that the University of Tennessee will host the event.

Head coach Kenny Doyle takes four Golden Eagles this weekend to the annual event at Goodfriend Tennis Center that will run from Friday morning through Tuesday. Fans can follow the action via live blog or Twitter updates from the account @ITAOhioValley.

Opening play for the Golden Eagles will be the duo of Oleksiy Arovin and Alberto Esteban. The two will team up for a 7:30 a.m. CDT showdown with Vanderbilt's Anton Kovrigin and Jeff Offerdahl.

At 9 a.m. the Tech doubles team of Vasily Eremeev and Artem Tarasov will match up against the winner of the Ball State team of Patrick Elliott and Ray Leonard and the Vanderbilt duo of Suresh Eswaran and Kris Yee.

On the singles side of the event, Esteban will open things for the Golden Eagles, facing Akshay Verma of IUPUI in a 12 p.m. match. Also at 12 p.m., Eremeev will go up against Ohio Valley Conference opponent Ji Hoon Heo of Morehead State.

Arovin will take on IUPUI's Pat O'Neil in a 1 p.m. contest and Tarasov will wrap up the Golden Eagles' first round of singles play with a 1:30 p.m. match against OVC foe Adam Taylor of Murray State.
