Golden Eagle tennis heads south for Grizzly Open in Lawrenceville, Ga.

LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. - After a solid showing at the USTA/ITA Regional Championships, the Tennessee Tech tennis team will hit the courts again this weekend as it travels south to Lawrenceville, Ga. for the Grizzly Open.

Hosted by Georgia Gwinnett College at the GGC Tennis Facility, the event will be held Friday, Oct. 18 through Sunday, Oct. 20.

Head coach Kenny Doyle will make the trip with six Golden Eagles, taking on the ranks of players from 14 teams from around the country as well as many players unattached to any university or collegiate institute. 

Opening up play for the Golden Eagles will be the doubles team of Alberto Esteban and Oleksiy Arovin. The two will face off against Berry College's Seth Taylor and Austin Miller in a 4 p.m. CDT match on Friday.

Also teaming up for the Tech squad in a 4 p.m. duo's duel will be Alvaro Cintas and Gagan Jain as they take on Point University's Daniel Blanchard and Ben Markowski. Wrapping up doubles play will be the Golden Eagle duo of Vasily Eremeev and Artem Tarasov. The Tech players will take on Itawamba Community College's Nathaniel and Montae Pinkney at 5 p.m.

In singles play, Arovin, Eremeev, and Esteban will compete in Flight A while Jain, Tarasov, and Cintas will represent the Golden Eagles in Flight B.

Arovin will face off against in-state rival Derrick Brown of Chattanooga in a 6 p.m. match while Eremeev will be pitted against Evgeny Silitski of Georgia Gwinnett, also at 6 p.m. Esteban will play at 7:30 p.m. in a match against Presbyterian's Rafael Berghaus.

Flight B will kick things off Saturday morning as Jain will face Alex Exted, one of several unattached players, in an 8 a.m. start. Also playing at 8 a.m. on Saturday will be Tarasov who will take on another unattached participant, Kevin Lim. Finalizing singles play for the Golden Eagles is Cintas, who is matched up against Chattanooga's John Peacey at 8 a.m.
