MUSCLE SHOALS, Ala. – Saving his best golf for his final season, Tennessee Tech men's golfer Lee Whitehead took his play to another level this season, prompting the Ohio Valley Conference to award the senior with his first career All-OVC honors Friday evening.

Known as the wiley veteran of the Golden Eagle squad for his consistent play, Whitehead has proven to be especially effective in the spring this season, placing in the top 15 of all five events. In that span, he collected three All-Tournament honors and tied for first at the Red Wolves Intercollegiate (eventually falling on the second hole of a playoff).

A native of Knoxville, Whithead entered the OVC Championships tied for seventh in the league in stroke average with mark of 72.52. His current scoring average also represents the lowest by a Tech golfer since the 2006-07 campaign, the senior season of current PGA Tour Pro Scott Stallings, who posted an average of 70.9.

Whithead's All-OVC honor marks the second in as many years for the Golden Eagle men's golf team as teammate Mitch Thomas took home All-OVC accolades last season as a sophomore.

UT Martin's Hunter Richardson was named the 2014-15 Ohio Valley Conference Freshman of the Year. The award, along with the All-OVC and All-Newcomer squads, were announced Friday evening at a banquet following the first day of play at the 2015 OVC Championship.

The OVC Player and Coach of the Year awards will be announced Sunday afternoon following the final round of play at the Championships, which is being held at The Robert Trent Jones Golf Trail at The Shoals in Muscle Shoals, Alabama.
