HATTIESBURG, Miss. – With its last round of the Sam Hall Intercollegiate in the books, the Tennessee Tech men's golf team will face nearly four weeks away from the links before it next event at the University of Cincinnati.

The Golden Eagles saw a four-stroke improvement from the second to third round, carding a team score of 293 to finish at 875 overall and take 13th place in the event.

The squad was led by senior Lee Whitehead, who tied for 36th in the tournament after completing a three-day scorecard of 67-74-75=216.

Competing in his first event as a Golden Eagle, true freshman Ben Huskey took second among the Tech participants, throwing together a 70-74-76=220 to tie for 51st overall.

Juniors Adam Cunningham and Mitch Thomas each tallied final scores of 223 for the event, tying for 60th in the process. A native of Cookeville, Cunningham turned in the best round of the day for the Golden Eagles, grabbing a 70 to go along with a first-day of 78-75=153. Thomas played consistent throughout the two-day tournament, scoring 75-74-74=223.

Senior Mason Griffin wrapped up the participators for the Tech squad, carding a 73-77-74=224 to finish in a tie for 65th.

"It was nice to see the guys come out and improve in the final round of the tournament," head coach Polk Brown said. "However, we still have a lot of aspects of the game to work on and we will get after it here over the next few weeks. I fully expect us to compete at Cincinnati and can't wait to see how much we improve as we go forward."

The Golden Eagles will have plenty of time to hit the practice course, not seeing action again until Monday Oct. 6 when the team heads north for the Bearcat Invitational hosted by Cincinnati.
