Tony Ramirez name Athletics Equipment Coordinator

COOKEVILLE, Tenn. – Bringing 15 years of experience and a prior relation with TTU head football coach Watson Brown, Tony Ramirez has been named Athletics Equipment Coordinator where he will oversee all equipment needs and usage for the entire Golden Eagle Athletics program.

“I am excited to be in a position that will give me the opportunity to work with every sport in the athletic department,” Ramirez said regarding his hiring. “In my career, I want to move toward an administrative role, and I believe this position at Tennessee Tech gives me the opportunity to do so.”

The position of Athletic Equipment Coordinator includes purchasing, inventory and budget management, oversight of safety and maintenance, distribution, and collection of all athletic equipment within NCAA guidelines.

The Trussville, Ala., native has been working in the equipment industry since 1998, and started with team sports in 2001.  While Ramirez was completing his undergraduate degree at the University of Alabama at Birmingham, he served as a student equipment manager, where he was responsible for practice and game set up, laundry, and daily upkeep of the equipment.

In 2003, Ramirez graduated from UAB with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science and History.

Also in 2003, Ramirez went from a student assistant to the head equipment manager of all sports at UAB.  He was responsible for day-to-day operations of the football equipment room, equipment and laundry. He was also primarily responsible for the purchase of sports equipment, and maintaining the designated budget. He also managed and trained student equipment managers, as well as other duties.

His time at UAB is where he began his relationship with Coach Brown.  Brown was the head football coach at UAB from 1995-2006. Assistant coaches Pat Donohoe, Sam Williamson and Steven Brown were also at UAB during Ramirez’s time with the Blazers. Ramirez wrapped up his tenure at UAB in 2007.

In 2008, Ramirez took his talents to Northeastern University in Boston, Mass., where he was the equipment manager of football, men’s and women’s soccer, women’s ice hockey, and baseball.

Following two years at Northeastern, Ramirez headed back to his home state, as he took the position of equipment manager of football and men’s and women’s soccer at the University of West Alabama.

In his new position with Tennessee Tech Athletics, Ramirez will also handle equipment contract negotiations, purchasing of all apparel and coordination of laundry services.

Ramirez is a current member of the Athletic Equipment Managers Association. He resides in Cookeville with his wife, Angela.
