COOKEVILLE, Tenn. - Less than a week removed from garnering his first career All-Ohio Valley Conference nod, men's golfer Mitch Thomas received another great honor. The sophomore was named the Gilbert Darcy Most Valuable Player as head coach Polk Brown announced the 2013-14 team awards recently.

The MVP award is named in honor of the father of former Golden Eagle golf captain Randy Darcy.

Thomas, who was also named the team's Best Putter and took home the Low Average award, led the Golden Eagles this season with a 73.25 scoring average over 32 rounds of play. He collected four top 10 and two top five finishes as well as earning All-Tournament recognition at both the Bearcat Invitational and F&M Bank APSU Intercollegiate.

The team's Most Improved award went to junior Maxx Verble, who participated in four events for the Golden Eagles. He averaged a 76.33 per round, shaving over three strokes off his scoring average of his sophomore season.

In his second year as a member of the Tech squad, Lee Whitehead took home the Most Dedicated award after finishing second on the team with a 73.78 scoring average. The wiley veteran carded the team's lowest round of the season, carding a 65 at the Snowman Getaway. He also earned All-Tournament honors at The Hummingbird Intercollegiate.

Coming back from a year off due to injury, redshirt junior Mason Griffin was recognized as the team's Long Hitter for averaging the farthest distance on his drives. Griffin, named the team captain by Brown, shared the Impact Award with sophomore Bryce Kendrick.
