Golden Eagle golf program adds Chattanooga's Alexander Riddle

COOKEVILLE, Tenn. – Alexander Riddle, a promising young golfer who has been key to the success of his Notre Dame High School team in Chattanooga, has signed a national letter of intent to attend Tennessee Tech University where he will continue his career for coach Polk Brown.

“Alexander is going to be an outstanding addition to our team,” Brown said. “He is a very dedicated player and hard worker.  I look forward to seeing him contribute to our squad immediately.”

A senior at Notre Dame, Riddle finished runner-up last year at the TSSAA state tournament, after helping his squad win the 2011 state championship. He placed third in the region in both 2012 and 2013, and won medalist honors at the 2013 Willowbrook Invitational.

"I'm more than excited to be coming to Tennessee Tech to play golf,” Riddle said. “I really like what Coach Brown is doing with the program, and I can't wait to get there and contribute to the team."

His high school coach, Jeff Fisher, sees Riddle achieving success as a college player.

“Alexander Riddle is one of top division one prospects to come out of the Notre High School program in the last few years,” Fisher said. “He was instrumental in us winning the 2011 State Championship and was tied for individual medalist honors in 2012 going into the last hole of the tournament before finishing one shot back.

“He also was the team leader in our District and Region Championships this year and had another strong showing at the State Tournament. Alexander has also had a very successful career in junior golf including winning a number of tournaments and finishing strong in other events.”

Fisher also had praise for Riddle’s leadership abilities.

“Not only is Alexander an excellent golfer, but he is a team leader and a mentor to younger golfers,” Fisher said. “He was chosen team captain the last two years by his teammates.  Notre Dame has been fortunate to have at least one player sign with a division one program for the last few years, but of those players, Alexander probably has the best chance to make an immediate impact at the next level.”
