Catching up with PGA champion and former Golden Eagle Scott Stallings

COOKEVILLE, Tenn. - After winning his third PGA Tour championship with a first place showing Sunday at the Farmers Insurance Open at Torrey Pines, former Tennessee Tech golfer Scott Stallings is sitting atop of the professional golf world this week.

Last fall, the Golden Eagle Sports Network caught up with Scott for a conversation about his professional career and his days at Tennessee Tech. A short version of the interview first appeared as a "Where Have They Landed" segment on The Watson Brown Show in October. This longer version of the interview touches on numerous topics, including how he chose Tech and his relationship with Hall of Fame coach Bobby Nichols.

An All-American while at Tech under Nichols' direction, Stallings has already qualified for four Major championships in his first three years on the tour and with the win on Sunday, earned a spot in his fifth, clinching an appearance in this year's Masters.

The victory marks the third of his young career, as well as his eighth top five finish. He also owns wins at the True South Classic at Annandale Golf Course in 2012 and at the Greenbrier Classic at the Old White TPC in 2011.

Stallings was named OVC Golfer of the Year in 2006 and 2007 and placed 30th at the 2006 NCAA Championship. He ranks 10th in this season's FedEx Cup standings and with the victory, has already earned over $1.1 million this year on the PGA Tour.

Next on the schedule for Stallings is a trip to Scottsdale, Ariz. and TPC Scottsdale Golf Course for the Waste Management Phoenix Open beginning Thursday. The tournament will be aired on CBS and the Golf Channel.
