HOPKINSVILLE, Ky. -  As head coach Polk Brown predicted, there were plenty of birdies up for grabs at the F&M Bank APSU Intercollegiate and the Tennessee Tech men's golf team took advantage, tying for sixth place through the event's first two rounds.

There is still plenty of room for movement up for the Golden Eagles as well as they prepare for the final round of the tournament on Tuesday morning. They sit just nine strokes out of third place after finishing the first day of play with a 288-287=575 team score.

Contributions to that one-under performance came from all over the course, but sophomore Mitch Thomas was the lead bird for the Golden Eagles, carding a 71-69=140 to tie for seventh out of 87 golfers.

Redshirt junior Mason Griffin also found himself in the top 20 for the day, tying for 19th after posting 69-74=143. Both Thomas and Griffin find themselves under par for the tournament as they are -4 and -1, respectively.

Sophomores Adam Cunningham and Bryce Kendrick also posted well for the Tech squad. Cunningham shot 72-73=145 for a one-over performance through the first two rounds while Kendrick put together a 76-72=148.

Juniors Lee Whitehead and Maxx Verble shot identical scores on the day, posting 76-73=149's. Verble is competing at the event as an individual.

Round three will commence at the 7,132-yard, par-72 The Links at Novadell on Tuesday at 9 a.m. CDT with a shotgun start.
