COOKEVILLE, Tenn. -- The Tennessee Tech women's and men's
basketball teams play their next four games on the road, beginning
Thursday night with an Ohio Valley Conference doubleheader at
Austin Peay. The women's game tips off at 5:15 p.m., with the men's
contest slated for 7:30 p.m. in the Dunn Center in Clarksville.
In the women's contest, the Golden Eagles seek to win their fourth
straight over the Lady Govs. Tech owns a 66-13 all-time record
against Austin Peay, including both contests last year. Tech
allowed just 52 points in each game, winning 65-52 in Cookeville
and 69-52 in Clarksville.
This season, Austin Peay is tied for fifth in the OVC with a 4-3
conference record and owns an 8-10 overall mark. The Golden Eagles
are currently in eighth place at 2-5, and bring a 4-14 overall
record into Thursday's action.
In the men's contest, the Golden Eagles look to win back-to-back
games when they challenge the league-leading Governors. Austin Peay
comes into the game in sole possession of first place in the OVC
with a 6-1 conference record, while Tech is in a three-way tie for
sixth place at 3-4.
Thursday's game will pit the two top coaches in the OVC against one
another. Dave Loos of Austin Peay ranks first among all active
league coaches for wins in against OVC rivals with 192 in his 19
seasons. Tech's Mike Sutton ranks second in the league in
conference victories with 69 in seven seasons.
APSU won both games last year over Tech, and took a narrow 65-63
edge in the 128 games played in the all-time series between the two
schools.
Following the doubleheader at APSU, the Tech teams motor to
Nashville to take on Tennessee State in a doubleheader Saturday
evening. The road stretch continues next week with games at Eastern
Illinois and Southeast Missouri.
