Tech get just three hits as Western Carolina snaps Golden Eagle three-game streak

CULLOWHEE, N.C. – The Tennessee Tech baseball team could muster only three hits against Western Carolina, as the Catamounts beat Tech 11-0 Wednesday, ending the Golden Eagle win streak at three.

Casanova Donaldson, Tate McMillan and Evan Webb all hit safely in the game, but the Golden Eagles were unable to score a run for only the second time this season.
The Catamounts(27-17) took a 1-0 lead in the first inning, and the score stayed that way until the bottom of the fourth, when WCU added four more runs, taking a 5-0 lead. Another four-run inning in the seventh, coming on a Catamount grand slam, and a pair of runs in the eight made the final score 11-0.

Matthew Shepherd (3-2) got the start for the Golden Eagles (22-18, 7-9), and pitched two innings, allowing one run on three hits in the loss, and Tech used five different pitchers in the contest.

The Golden Eagles continue their action this weekend, with a three-game Ohio Valley Conference series at Murray State on May 2 and 3.

Tech is currently in sixth place in the OVC, and is just a half game behind Morehead State for the fifth place position with two conference weekends remaining. The league’s top six teams will advance to the OVC tournament May 20-24 in Paducah, Ky.
