Golden Eagles look to stay hot, scheduled for six games in six days

COOKEVILLE, Tenn. – Coming off a three-game sweep over conference opponent Eastern Kentucky, the Tennessee Tech baseball team looks to stay hot, with six games scheduled this week, including a home double-header with Covenant on April 14 beginning at 4 p.m.

The Golden Eagles and Covenant, of the NAIA’s Appalachian Athletic Conference, have never met. The Scots come into Cookeville with an 11-27 overall record, and are 7-14 in the AAC. Tech won’t have much turnaround time before hitting the road for its return game at East Tennessee State. The Golden Eagles racked up a then season-high 15 runs when the Bucs visited Cookeville, topping ETSU 15-7 on April 1, in a game that Casanova Donaldson went 5-for-5. Donaldson has hit in every game since, extending his streak to seven games, as Tech has gone 5-2 in the month of April.

The Golden Eagles will have two days off before heading to Clarksville, Tenn. for a three-game conference series with Austin Peay (14-20, 2-6). The Governors have been solid at home this season, going 12-8 in Clarksville.

The series will be critical to both teams, as Tech and Austin Peay are currently are in seventh and eighth place in the OVC halfway through league play, as the top six teams advance to the OVC tournament in Paducah, Ky.

Looking ahead to next week, the Golden Eagles have five home-games scheduled, as Georgia State will visit for a two-game series on April 21 and 22, before Tech hosts UT Martin for a three-game OVC series April 25 and 26.
