Kirby-Jones goes yard three times as Golden Eagles blank Buffalo

COOKEVILLE, Tenn. -- A.J. Kirby-Jones hit three home runs and drove in five runs and pitcher Adam Liberatore gave up only two hits in the win as the Tennessee Tech baseball team rolled to a 9-0 victory over Buffalo in the first game of a four-game weekend series at Bush Stadium on Friday evening.

Kirby-Jones finished the game 4-for-4 at the plate and his three home runs give him 32 for his career, tied for the Tech all-time career record. Kirby-Jones has seven for the season. Liberatore notched his second win of the season as the Golden Eagles won their second straight game and improve to 6-7 on the season while Buffalo drops to 5-5.

Chad Oberacker went 2-for-5 at the plate with a pair of doubles and an RBI, and also pitched two scoreless innings and recorded three strikeouts. Stephen Pryor came in to pitch the ninth inning and struck out the side without allowing a hit. The shutout was Tech's first of the season.

Tech scored all nine of its runs in the first six innings of the game, and rallied for five runs in the third inning. The Golden Eagles racked up 14 hits and committed one error, while Buffalo tallied five hits and one error in the game.

Seth Edwards, Casanova Donaldson and Zephan Guyear each had two hits in the game, and Guyear batted in three runs.

The teams will continue the four-game series with a double-header on Saturday beginning at 11 a.m. The double-header, originally scheduled for 1 p.m., has been pushed up due to the threat of rain. The teams will play a nine inning game at 11 a.m. followed by a seven inning game.
