COOKEVILLE, Tenn. – For the first time in his career at Tech, Chad Oberacker has been voted the Ohio Valley Conference Player of the Week for week 13 of the 2010 baseball season.
He joins teammates A.J. Kirby-Jones, Adam Liberatore and Lee Henry on the list of those receiving weekly OVC accolades. Liberatore was named Pitcher of the Week in late February and Co-Pitcher of the Week in late April with Henry, while Kirby-Jones was honored as one of March’s Players of the Week.
Oberacker was the driving force for the Golden Eagles in this past weekend’s series on the road against UT-Martin. He went 3-for-5 in game one, hitting a double and a home run for two RBI's and earning two walks on the way to a 9-7 Tech victory in 13 innings.
Relentless in game two, he hit two more doubles in three at-bats and recorded another RBI and another walk. He also boasted stats of 2-2 in stolen bases as the Golden Eagles took the second game of the day, 6-2. In the finale of the series, he logged three more RBI’s batting .600 by going 3-for-4 with three base hits and another walk.
Earlier in the week he went 1-3 against Middle Tennessee State with an RBI double, a walk and a sacrifice fly. Overall, Oberacker batted .600 for the week, slugged a monumental 1.067 and carried a .714 OBP.
With 202 total at-bats this season, the Golden Eagle center fielder leads the Ohio Valley Conference in batting at .446, and also ranks first in hits (90) and doubles (27). He carries a .515 on-base percentage, which ranks third in the conference, and slugs .668 (ninth in the OVC).
Additionally, he ranks fifth in the conference in total bases with 135, seventh in runs scored with 55, eighth in runs batted in having brought 56 across the plate, and tenth in walks having taken 28 free bases thus far this season.
When facing strictly OVC opponents his stats are even more impressive; he bats a .475 and slugs .729 in 59 at-bats versus in-conference rivals.
Oberacker will look to continue his success this week as he leads his team into four straight games at Bush Stadium, a non-conference match-up against Western Carolina on Tuesday at 4:00pm and a huge weekend series against Murray State to determine the Ohio Valley Conference Champions.
