Tech tops Buffalo in series finale

COOKEVILLE, Tenn. -- Chad Oberacker finished with four hits in five tries and drove in five runs as the Tennessee Tech baseball team finished its four-game series with a 13-7 win over Buffalo to take three out of four games from the Bulls.

Oberacker went 4-for-5 from the plate, and Seth Edwards went 2-for-5 with a two-run homer as the Golden Eagles tallied 12 hits in the win.

Junior Chason Choate got the win on the mound for the Golden Eagles after pitching 4.2 innings of relief and allowing just two runs. Matthew Shepherd got the start for Tech and threw 3.0 innings. Stephen Pryor came in to pitch the final 1.1 innings witout allowing a hit.

Tech got two runs in the first inning off Edwards' home run to go up 2-0. After Buffalo scored three runs in the second inning to go up 3-2 Casanova Donaldson led off the bottom of the second with a solo home run. Chad Oberacker would add an RBI single later in the inning to put Tech up 4-3.

Buffalo would not go away, adding two more runs in the top of th third inning to go ahead 5-4, a lead which would hold until the bottom of the fourth. Tech's first four batters would reach base in the fourth inning, and the Golden Eagles would add two runs on three hits to go ahead 6-5.

Tech added a run in the sixth and two in the seventh before the Bulls pulled within 9-7, but the Golden Eagles sealed the game with four runs in the eighth inning to go ahead 13-7.

Tech improves to 8-8 on the season, while Buffalo falls to 6-7. The Golden Eagles will be back in action on March 17 when East Tennessee State visits for a single game in Bush Stadium. Tech will visit Memphis in a three-game weekend set March 19-21.
