Dominating Duo: Henry, Liberatore named OVC Pitchers of the Week

COOKEVILLE, Tenn. -- Adam Liberatore was unbeatable in the opener and Lee Henry followed with a nearly untouchable performance.

The pair threw 16 scoreless innings, notching back-to-back complete game shutouts, as Tennessee Tech swept an Ohio Valley Conference doubleheader from visiting Eastern Illinois, 4-0 and 3-0, Saturday in Bush Stadium.

Their combined performance, which included career-highs in strikeouts by each, has earned them recognition as the OVC Pitcher of the Week, devided in voting around the league. It's the first honor for Henry and the second time this season that Libertore has been selected.

Liberatore, a 6-foot-3 lefty from Rochester, Pa., worked nine innings and struck out 12 batters in the 4-0 victory to start the day. He scattered eight hits and walked one in posting his first complete game of the season.

Henry, a 5-10 right-hander from Knoxville, Tenn., pitched the second game, tossing all seven innings while allowing just three singles and equaling his career-high with nine strikeouts. Panther batters hit just .150 against Henry, who now leads the OVC in strikeouts and lowest opponent batting average, and ranks second in ERA.

The Golden Eagles play at Middle Tennessee Tuesday night, then return home for an OVC series this weekend against Morehead State. Liberatore and Henry are expected to pitch in Saturday's doubleheader, beginning at 1 p.m.
