Purple and gold visit Louisville for Saturday's Live in Lou Classic

COOKEVILLE, Tenn. – The Tennessee Tech cross country teams return to action Saturday morning, competing at the Live in Lou Classic at E.P. "Tom" Sawyer State Park in Louisville, Ky. for the second straight year.

Competition for the purple and gold kicks off with the men's blue 8K race at 9:45 a.m. CT. Tech will then compete in the women's blue 5K meet at approximately 10:30 a.m.

The Golden Eagles enter the weekend with momentum from their most recent event at home in Cookeville. The men's squad delivered a runner-up showing at the Golden Eagle Invitational, paced by sophomore Miceal McCaul

The reigning OVC Male Freshman of the Year topped the Tech squad and finished second overall with an 8K performance of 25:45.3, just three seconds off the eventual champion. Fellow sophomore Chase Faudi clocked in with a time of 26:14.1 to place fifth while another sophomore, Samuel Goodchild, produced a top-10 result in his Tech debut at 26:28.1.

The women's crew cruised to a first-place finish in the Golden Eagle Invitational, dominant with a whopping six of the top-10 runners in the field. Junior Ruby Wyles led the way, collecting medalist honors with a time of 23:07.4, more than 37 seconds faster than the next closest runner.

Rahab Sawe placed third with a 6K of 23:56.5, narrowly edging out teammate and rookie Ava Costello. The freshman made her collegiate debut with a fourth-place showing of 23:56.7. Not far behind, Cookeville native Maddie Long clocked in at 24:07.3 to finish seventh.

In eighth place, sophomore Amanda Laboy delivered a time of 24:12.1 while Chloe Wade closed out the top-10 for the purple and gold in ninth. She notched a time of 24:14.5.

Following this weekend's race, the Golden Eagles will compete next at the Chattanooga Invitational in Chattanooga, Tenn. The meet will be hosted by Chattanooga on Friday, Oct. 14.
