NASHVILLE, Tenn. -- Running amongst a strong field, the Tennessee
Tech women's cross country team saw five runners establish personal
best times Saturday as the Golden Eagles placed 15th at the
Commodore Classic hosted by Vanderbilt University.
Yeshi Dohrmann, a senior from Tullahoma, Tenn., was the
first across the finish line for the Golden Eagles in the 5K race,
covering the distance at Percy Warner Park in 20:12.28. She was the
234th runner overall, and placed 98th among the Division I
runners.
Next in for Tech was freshman Baylee Balgemann, whose time of 20:48.82 eclipsed the
5K career-best that she established earlier this year by nearly two
full minutes. She led a group of five Tech runners who beat their
personal best times. Junior Sarah
Wilson was seconds behind in 20:52.90, followed by freshman Lera McNamara (20:53.87), freshman Anna
Cooper (21:23.99) and freshman Kathie O'Neill (22:03.09).
"Our ladies are still struggling with learning how to race," said
first-year Golden Eagle coach Wayne Angel. "We are relatively young
and have a very long way to go. We will continue training and
learning. I have confidence that they will have a breakthrough
soon".
Vanderbilt placed five runners in the top seven to sweep its way
to the team title with 25 points, with SEC mate Mississppi State a
distant second with 114 points. Middle Tennessee (123), Lipscomb
(124) and Louisville (149) rounded out the top five. Belmont, the
only other Ohio Valley Conference school in th field with Tech, had
a seventh place showing and 199 points.
The Golden Eagles get a couple of weekends off before returning to
competition on Saturday, Oct. 4, at the Greater Louisville
Classic.
