Complete meet results

LOUISVILLE, Ky. – As expected, sophomore Geoffrey Sambu led the Tennessee Tech men's cross country team and senior Yeshi Dohrmann was the top runner for the Golden Eagle women's squad Saturday at the Greater Louisville Classic.

Three of Tech's five women posted career-best 5K times in the race, while in the men's event five of six Golden Eagles clocked career-best 8K efforts.

Racing against the largest field they will face this year, the Tech men finished sixth among the 13 Division I schools in the Men's Blue Division, with Sambu placing 15th individually overall and seventh among Division I runners.

In the Women's Silver Division, Tech was third among five Division I programs, with Dohrmann placing 10th in the Division I scoring.

"I was very pleased with both teams today," said first-year Golden Eagle coach Wayne Angel. "We had some major breakthroughs on both sides. I think everyone had PR's with exception of Sambu on the men's team, and he had missed a week of training."

Sambu still paced the men's squad with a time of 25:10.50 to place 15th overall in a field of  356 runners. He was seventh in Division I. Behind him, every Golden Eagle runner recorded a new personal best effort.

"Our training is finally starting to pay off," Angel said. "I'm very happy for both our men's and women's teams."

Sophomore Brennan Huber edged his PR by .08 of a second, running a time of 25:40.64 to finish 18th overall. Daniel Williamson, another sophomore, was 48th in 26:28.80, followed by classmate Wesley King in 27:16.20. Freshmen Ian Barclay and Colin Gwaltney rounded out Tech's lineup. Barclay ran a time of 27:43.66, while Gwaltney finished in 28:06.40.

As a team, Tech was sixth in Division I with 208 points in a race won by Missouri. Tech finished better than Radford, Marshall, South Florida, Tampa, Mercer, Chattanooga and Evansville.

Two hours later in the sixth and final collegiate race of the event, the Tech women placed third in the Silver Division that was won by Lipscomb. Tech finished ahead of Marshall and Chicago State.

Dohrmann's time 19:26.15 beat her previous career-best and placed her 24th individually among 404 runners, and 10th in the Division I scoring. Freshmen Anna Cooper and Lera McNamara also recorded personal best times. Cooper ran a time of 19:53.90 for a 13th place finish, while McNamara placed 21st in the time of 20:45.05. Baylee Balgemann finished in 21:18.34 and Kathie O'Neill clocked in at 22L10.75, both freshmen narrowly missing their career-best efforts.

Angel will take the Tech runners to the Sunshine State next week to compete in Florida State's FSU Invitational in Tallahassee on Saturday (Oct. 11).
