COOKEVILLE, Tenn. – After helping lead a Tech defense that surrendered just two goals in two matches over the weekend, senior Katie Phillips was recognized as the adidas® Ohio Valley Conference Defensive Player of the Week on Tuesday.
The Cincinnati, Ohio native takes home the honor on the heels of a stellar weekend that included a goal in a 2-1 win over Chattanooga on Friday, and a strong showing on Sunday in a 1-0 loss to Arkansas-Little Rock, with the Trojans managing just one penalty shot goal after coming in with 34 scores in seven matches.
"We are excited for Katie on earning the Ohio Valley Conference Defensive Player of the Week honor," TTU head coach Steve Springthorpe said on the senior defender's honor. "She is well deserving of the recognition after a great weekend and I know she is thankful to all of the Sports Information Directors who voted for her to win this award."
Phillips secured her first goal of the season in Friday's victory over Chattanooga, scoring off of a corner kick in the 22nd minute to put the Golden Eagles up 1-0.
Tech will continue its string of eight-straight on the road over the weekend, traveling to Wright State on Friday, Sep. 19, before heading to Evansville on Sunday, Sep. 21.
