MOUNT PLEASANT, S.C. – Three weeks away from the golf course couldn't keep the Tennessee Tech women's golf team from getting off to a hot start at the CSU Wendy's Invitational Monday, as the Golden Eagles finished the first day of action in fourth place.

Junior Maddi Everts led the way for the Tech squad, carding a 75-71=146 to rank third in the 47-player field. The second-round 71 marked the lowest 18-hole score for the veteran this season as well lowest score for any Golden Eagle this year.

Fellow junior Megan Williamson showed poise and leadership on the day, tying for 10th overall with a 149 off of rounds of 75 and 74. Adding to the strong showing on the first day of competition was sophomore Whitney Robertson. The Clarksville native tallied a 76-77=153 scorecard, tying for 21st through the first two rounds.

Rounding out the scoring was local Cookeville rookie Anna Cunningham. The redshirt freshman finished with a 163 after rounds of 82 and 81, completing the 308-303=611 day for the Golden Eagles.

"I was impressed with the way we bounced back from our last event," head coach Polk Brown said. "It was nice to see our veteran girls lead the way and just play some good golf. I look forward to seeing how we progress over our final 18 holes and see if we can't make a run towards the top of the standings."

Tech will wrap up competition at the Wendy's Invitational on Tuesday morning, beginning with a shotgun start.
