BRENTWOOD, Tenn. – Two members of the Tennessee Tech outdoor track & field team were recognized for their impressive performances over the past week, with Mattie Bush and Tyla Street each earning Ohio Valley Conference Athlete of the Week honors as announced by the league Wednesday afternoon.
Bush took home her first career OVC Female Field Athlete of the Week nod behind a spectacular showing at the Tennessee Invite. The sophomore set a new career record in the long jump, placing fifth among 40 competitors with a leap of 5.94 meters (19'6"), the second-longest mark in the OVC this season.
Street collected the first OVC Female Freshman of the Week honor of her young career with a superb performance at the Tennessee Invite. The rookie also delivered a new PR at the event, finishing sixth in the triple jump with the league's third-best leap, a distance of 11.92 meters (39'1.25").
The two youngsters took home the first two weekly awards of the outdoor campaign for the purple and gold. Distance runner Rylee Wells was honored as an OVC Female Freshman of the Week during the indoor season.
Next up for the Golden Eagles is a trip east to Cullowhee, N.C., and Western Carolina's Catamount Classic. The two-day event will run from Friday, Apr. 25, through Saturday, Apr. 26.
