COOKEVILLE, Tenn. – The Tennessee Tech Golden Eagles (20-20)
are set to land on Buccaneer territory in Johnson City, Tenn., on
Wednesday night to take on East Tennessee State (22-17). It
is Tech's first of their three remaining non-conference games this
regular season.
Tech will be looking to earn their fifth series sweep of the season, having edged out the Bucs at home in March, 6-5, when Zephan Guyear (pictured) hit a two-run single up the middle in the bottom of the ninth to give Tech's closer, Stephen Pryor the win for the day.
A win at ETSU would also lift Tech over the .500 mark for the first time since March 3rd. Since then, the guys have battled from as many as seven games back overall to get to .500.
In the last meeting between the two teams, Tech senior Tate McMillan went 2-for-2 and walked twice and recorded one RBI, while junior A.J. Kirby-Jones went 2-for-3 with a double and a sixth-inning two-run shot, and logged two free bases as well. In addition to getting the walk-off single, Guyear added a sac fly for an additional RBI.
East Tennessee's Paul Hoilman earned four of the Buc's five runs on a single to left field and a round-tripper in the top of the eighth to score three.
