Dennick makes professional debut with Burlington Royals

JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. -- Former Golden Eagle Ryan Dennick made his professional debut Friday night, tossing three innings in relief for the Burlington Royals in a 4-0 loss at Johnson City. Dennick didn't get a decision in his first appearance, striking out four batters.

A lefty from North Olmstead, Ohio, Dennick entered the game to start the bottom of the sixth inning with the Royals trailing, 2-0. He held the Cardinals scoreless for two innings, stranding a runner at third in the sixth and pitching a 1-2-3 seventh inning. Dennick then battled through an interesting eighth inning.

The leadoff hitter in the eighth reached on an error at shortstop, before Dennick picked him off first base for the first out. After getting the next batter on strikes, Dennick allowed a two-out, two-run home run by Romulo Ruiz to make it a 4-0 contest. Burlington was held to just five hits in the loss.

Burlington plays two more at Johnson City, facing the Cardinals at 6 p.m. EDT both Saturday and Sunday, then plays its first home game of the season Monday night, hosting Bluefield at 7 p.m., to open a six-game homestand.
