Golden Eagles host Martin Methodist for final exhibition game of season

COOKEVILLE, Tenn.—Last minute preparations for the regular season are being done as the Tennessee Tech women's basketball team hosts Martin Methodist in an exhibition matchup on Tuesday at 6 p.m.

This will be the first time the Golden Eagles and Redhawks have faced each other. Martin Methodist is a member of the NAIA, and competes in the Southern States Athletic Conference (SSAC), a Division I sanction. Kyle Bent, who returns to the helm of the Martin Methodist program for his second season, coaches the Redhawks.

Juniors, Janasia Williams and Abby Clayton are Martin Methodist's players to watch. Last season, Williams averaged 35-percent from the field, 8.9 points, and 64-percent from the line, while Clayton had a solid 78.9-percent at the line and averaged 37.9-percent from the field.

The Golden Eagles opened with their first exhibition game of the season on Saturday when they downed Tennessee Wesleyan 71-52. As a team, Tech averaged 34.5-percent from the field while posting a 33.3-percent mark at the three-point range. The Golden Eagles allowed only 12 turnovers, compared to Wesleyan's 23 and connected on 29 of 84 field goals compared to the Bulldog's 18 of 50.

Senior, Samaria Howard served as a key player on the Tech team hitting 7 of 17 from the field and going 2-for-2 at the line to put up 16 points. Newcomer, Treyvonna Brooks had a solid first showing in the Tech purple and gold posting 14 points while netting 6-of-10 in the field and putting up three steals and a block.

The Tech team features seven newcomers and six returners this year so these two exhibition games before regular season play gets underway will serve as great practice for the Golden Eagle squad to learn to play fluidly together.

Season and game tickets can be purchased by visiting the Athletic Ticket Office in the Eblen Center or by calling (931) 372-3940. Tickets may also be purchased online at TTUsports.com.
