Golden Eagles split with Memphis and Louisiana Tech on day two of the LSU Invitational

BATON ROUGHE, La.—Fueled by a six-run first inning, the Tennessee Tech softball team (5-12, 0-0 OVC) claimed another tournament victory with a 10-1 win over Memphis (6-14). Later in the day, the Golden Eagles fell to Louisiana Tech (15-4) 15-2 to split games on day two of the LSU Invitational.

Tech wasted no time getting the bats going against the Tigers. With bases loaded and no outs in the top of the first, Alyssa Richards came up to the plate and smacked a grand slam over the left field wall. Later in the inning with two down and two on, Gabby Perez hit a single through the left side to score another Golden Eagle run. Then with senior, Cortney Fry on third and Perez on first, Perez stole second opening it up for Fry to steal home on the throw and extend the Tech lead to 6-0 before ending a successful top-of-first with six runs on six hits.

The Golden Eagles added on more in the top of the sixth with an RBI-double from Sabrie Neeb and three more in the top of the seventh with two RBI-doubles and a run on a Tiger fielding error to round out their 10-1 victory. Memphis's only run came in the bottom of the seventh when Katie Brignac grounded out to the shortstop advancing the runners and driving in Brooke Lee.

Leigh Thomas (2-3) saw victory on the mound, allowing just one run on four hits while striking out four and walking two. Adriana Morgan (1-3) suffered the loss allowing four runs on three hits, while walking one.

Against Louisiana Tech, the Lady Techsters knocked in two runs in the top of the first with a two-RBI double to left center by Morgan Turkoly. They then continued their scoring run into the top of the second when Louisiana Tech's Anna Cross hit a three-run home run to left center to extend their lead to 5-0. The Lady Techsters knocked in three more runs when Turkoly singled to left center to drive in a Louisiana Tech runner, and then Krys Tutsch followed up with a two-run home run to right field to extend the Lady Techster's lead to 8-0 by the end of the top of the second.

In the top of the third, the Lady Techster's Cross smacked another three-run home run down the left field line to extend the Louisiana Tech lead to 11-0 over the Golden Eagles. The Lady Techster's notched four more in the top of the fifth taking advantage of a Tech fielding error followed by two RBI-singles and a pop-fly to center field to close out the top of fifth with a score of 15-0 in favor of the Lady Techsters.

Richards knocked in Tech's only two runs with a home run to left field in the bottom of the fifth to cut the Louisiana Tech lead to 15-2.

Danielle Liberatore (2-6) suffered the loss going 1.1 innings and allowing five runs on four hits while walking two. Pauli Tiffin was victorious in the circle going for 2.0 innings and allowing two runs on four hits and striking out three.

The Golden Eagles will close out tournament play on Sunday with a noon contest against host LSU.
