KNOXVILLE, Tenn.—The Tennessee Tech softball team (19-29, 10-11 OVC) fell to No. 13 University of Tennessee, 8-0 in five innings, in their midweek matchup. The Lady Vols claimed their 88th straight victory over an in-state school with the victory over the Golden Eagles, while advancing their record to 36-12 on the season.
Tennessee notched its first runs in the bottom of the second when B. Vines singled through the right side to drive in two Lady Vols. Tennessee picked their scoring drive right back up in the bottom of the third when it notched three more runs off of a two-run homerun and an RBI-double. Finally, the Lady Vols rounded out their 8-0 victory in the bottom the fourth adding three more runs off of another two-run homerun and a sacrifice fly.
Hannah Weaver (3-9) suffered the loss for the Golden Eagles pitching 2.1 innings and allowing five runs off of five hits. Gaffin (9-3) saw victory in the circle for Tennessee, pitching the complete game shutout while retiring six at the dish.
Tech will return to action on Sat.-Sun. when they host conference-opponent Morehead State in a doubleheader at 1 p.m. and 3 p.m. on Saturday, and round out play on Sunday with a rubber game at 1 p.m.
