Golden Eagle offense struggles as Lady Toppers take the day

COOKEVILLE, Tenn. – Despite building a two-run lead, the Tennessee Tech softball team was unable to hold the Western Kentucky Lady Toppers back, as it took the 6-2 loss.

WKU’s five-run third inning proved decisive on the day as it used four hits, along with a walk and a Tech error, to score five of its six runs off TTU starter Claudia Harke. The Lady Toppers managed to get an additional run in the fourth off Tech reliever Whitney Cummings, who came in for relief for Harke.

Tech opened the scoring in the bottom of the second on a pair of RBI walks from Kaliegh Gates and Kendall Hooper, to take a 2-0 lead.

WKU relief pitcher Brittanie Albright came in for starter Dana Nathanson, and shut down the Golden Eagle offense as she gave up just one hit and a pair of walks, over 5.2 innings, to secure her first victory of the season.

Harke was saddled with the loss as she fell to 0-5 on the season.

Tech (16-19, 7-11 OVC) travels to Kentucky Saturday, for a non-conference doubleheader, beginning at 12 p.m.
