COOKEVILLE, Tenn. – With the 2011 softball season in full swing, the Tennessee Tech Golden Eagles will head to Denton, Texas this weekend to take part in the Sleep Inn Classic. The three-day tournament begins Friday.
Five teams will participate in the tournament including Tech,
Nebraska, Northwestern State, Centenary and host North Texas. Of
the participating teams, Centenary is the only school that has not
taken the field this season.
Tech (0-2) squares of against a pair of opponents Friday in
Centenary and Nebraska with game times scheduled for 1 p.m. and
3:30 p.m. The Golden Eagles own a combined 3-2 record against
Centenary and the Huskers. Presently, Nebraska owns a 5-1 record
and is on a three-game winning streak.
Day two of the Sleep Inn Classic will feature a pair of
opponents that Tech has faced one time each including Northwestern
State and the host North Texas with game times scheduled for 3 p.m.
and 5:30 p.m. The Lady Demons have built a 3-2 record, including a
10-2 five-inning victory against conference rival Southeast
Missouri. The host Mean Green are currently 2-4 on the season and
are on a four-game skid.
Tech wraps up the Sleep Inn Classic Sunday as it takes on the
Huskers at 10 a.m.
Tech absorbed a pair of one-run losses to Syracuse and Georgia
State last weekend. At the plate, the Golden Eagles were led by
senior catcher Callie Schmidt
who recorded two hits, including a two-run dinger, and a walk in
five at bats.
