BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Tennessee Tech men's golf team earned its highest finish of the fall semester Tuesday afternoon, placing second among 10 teams at the Samford Intercollegiate after posting an overall score of 886.
The Golden Eagles put together a third-round total of 307 to gather their first top-five showing of the year, while Ohio Valley Conference rival UT Martin tore apart the course over the final 18 holes for a 288 and two-stroke victory. The Skyhawks were led by Hunter Richardson, who won individual medalist honors with a 70-70-69=209.
Tech senior Alexander Riddle earned his first career All-Tournament honor, claiming a top-five finish by tying for fourth place. The veteran's 71-71-75=217 marked the second lowest score of his career and lowest since his freshman season when he fired a 73-71-72=216 at the Bobby Nichols Intercollegiate.
True freshman Will Brooks turned in an impressive showing in his fourth career event, finishing just a stroke behind Riddle for a 218 overall. The score provided the youngster his first career top-10 finish, tying for sixth among the field of 58.
Fellow freshman Bracton Womack also took home his first career top-10 finish, placing ninth after turning in a third-round 76. He finished with a 74-70-76=220 overall.
Senior A.J. Wilkerson marked the next finisher among the Tech participants, carding an 85-73-81=239 to finish in a tie for 39th. Junior Matthew Giles rounded out the group, posting a 242 on rounds of 77, 78 and 87.
The Golden Eagles are set to round out the fall schedule Monday, Oct. 30 with a single-day event at The Grove in College Grove, Tenn. hosted by Middle Tennessee.
