Golden Eagles earn third-place finish at Grover Page Classic

JACKSON, Tenn. – The Tennessee Tech men's golf team earned its fourth top-five ranking in its past five events Tuesday afternoon, claiming a third-place finish at Ohio Valley Conference foe UT Martin's Grover Page Classic at Jackson Country Club.

The Golden Eagles turned in a 299 in the third and final round of action, falling just a single stroke back of UT Martin for second place among the 10-team field with an 888. Delta State claimed the title after posting the second-lowest score of the tournament with a 291 for an 879.

Junior Matthew Giles and senior Alexander Riddle were both named to the All-Tournament Team after claiming top-five finishes. Giles led the Tech lineup with a 216 overall, the veteran's second-lowest three-round score of the year and third-lowest of his career. He posted a 73 on the day to rank third overall among the 60 participants.

Riddle competed as an individual during the week and matched his second-lowest 54-hole mark with a 217 for the event. The senior posted a 73, 69 and 75 for a fourth-place finish.

Rookie Bracton Womack collected a top-five finish by tying for fifth with a 218 after turning in rounds of 73, 69 and 76. He ranked second among Tech's lineup. Fellow rookie Will Brooks was next among the Golden Eagle starters, carding a 76-73-75=224 to place 14th in the event.

Rounding out Tech's lineup were senior A.J. Wilkerson and sophomore Dabney Dickenson. Wilkerson tied for 39th after totaling a 235 with scores of 77, 83 and 75. Dickenson tallied a 239 after an 83 in the final round, tying for 46th overall.

Also competing as an individual for the Golden Eagles was sophomore Cameron Yeary, who tied for 39th. The youngster posted a 235 thanks to scores of 82, 76 and 77.

The Golden Eagles will next play host to the sixth annual Bobby Nichols Intercollegiate in Sevierville, Tenn. at the Sevierville Golf Club from Sunday, Mar. 18 through Tuesday, Mar. 20.
