Tech men's golf ties for seventh at The Invitational at Savannah Harbor

SAVANNAH, Ga. – The Tennessee Tech men's golf team wrapped up play at The Invitational at Savannah Harbor Sunday afternoon, concluding its first test of spring action in a tie for seventh place among 16 teams competing at The Club at Savannah Harbor.

Host William & Mary claimed the tournament title with a three-round total of 854, 10 strokes under par. Butler's Logan Sabins earned medalist honors with a 7-under performance of 209.

The Golden Eagles posted a 305 on the final day of play, totaling 884 for the weekend to tie with Ohio of the Mid-American Conference for seventh place.

Tech was led by junior Matthew Giles, who tied for 14th in the field of 83 golfers after carding a 75-68-74=217. His score finished just a stroke over par for the event.

Freshmen Bracton Womack and Will Brooks represented the next two finishers for the Golden Eagles, both claiming spots in the top 50. Both rookies shot 78 over the final 18 holes, with Womack earning a tie for 32nd place for his overall total of 222. Brooks tallied a 225 for his three rounds to tie for 43rd.

Senior A.J. Wilkerson concluded his weekend just a shot back of Brooks, totaling a 72-74-80=226 to also nab a top 50 finish; a tie for 47th. Sophomore Cameron Yeary rounded out Tech's lineup with a final-round 75, his best showing of the tournament. He tied for 59th after completing play with a 229 for three rounds.

Tech will have the next two weeks off from competition, preparing for the Bash at the Beach in Myrtle Beach, S.C. on Mar. 5 and 6. The tournament, hosted by Appalachian State, will take place at The Surf Golf and Beach Club.
