RICHMOND, Ky. – The Tennessee Tech men's golf team wrapped up its second tournament in seven days Sunday afternoon, completing the EKU Raising Canes Intercollegiate in a tie for 10th place overall among 16 teams.
The Golden Eagles posted a final-round tally of 292 for an 862 overall, matching the score of Marshall to tie for 10th. Host Eastern Kentucky captured the overall team title, using the knowledge of its home course to its advantage to post an 837. Individually, Longwood's Jordan Boulton took home medalist honors, finishing with a 70-69-65=204.
Junior Matthew Giles and sophomore Cameron Yeary tied for the team lead in the event, tying for 35th overall among the 90 participants. Giles stayed relatively consistent throughout the weekend, carding a 72-73-72=217. The youngster, Yeary, rebounded nicely after a first-round 77, firing off back-to-back rounds of even-par 70 for his own 217. Both the single-round and total-round scores marked career lows for Yeary.
Playing in his first event of the 2017-18 campaign, senior A.J. Wilkerson concluded play with a 72-72-74=218, tying for 43rd overall. Rookie Bracton Womack finished just one stroke behind his teammate, totaling his 219 behind rounds of 68, 75 and 76. He tied for 50th overall.
Fellow freshman Will Brooks rounded out Tech's participants for the weekend, posting a 68-77-79=224.
The Golden Eagles will have some time off from competition before returning to the links Oct. 2 for the Hummingbird Intercollegiate in Sapphire, N.C.
